“Every game day is people’s day,” said UNTV-BMPI CEO and MCGI Vice-Presiding Minister Kuya Daniel Razon. “There is only one goal. We are always thinking how to insert public service [in everything] because that is what UNTV does, [as] Your Public Service Channel,” remarked Bro. Razon.

The Presiding Minister to MCGI Bro. Eli Soriano was also in attendance via technology to kick-off the public service event. Bro. Eli thanked the players and audience of this season’s UNTV Cup for their continuous support for a worthwhile cause.

“Remember that this project [that] we are doing is for the benefit of others, and not for the benefit of ourselves,” stated Bro. Eli to the crowd in attendance in Smart Araneta, and those watching the event via UNTV 37 and UNTVweb.com.

The support for UNTV Cup 2 extended to social media sites as well, as audiences tweeted live updates from the first game night of the season. For ten straight hours, the hashtag #UNTVCupSeason2 was a trending topic on Twitter’s Philippine trends.

What’s New in Season 2

The second season of the UNTV Cup promises better games and better public service.

For each game day, each participating government agency will set up desks manned by their representatives. This is for the benefit of the game watchers and other citizens who would like to seek help and information regarding their various concerns.

Two more teams have been added to the roster of players for this year’s tournament. The first of which is the Senate Defenders, whose Team Captain is Sen. Sonny Angara Jr.

The highest committee of the government also had its own team, the Malacañan Patriots, completing the ten teams of this season’s tournament.

With season 2 just beginning, UNTV Cup Commissioner Fortunato “Atoy” Co, already called upon the game’s supporters to watch out for season three. According to the PBA legend, they are already making plans to increase the cash prize of winners and anticipating more teams to sign up and play for charity.

The first game of this season commenced with the House of Representatives Solons versus the Senate Defenders. The Senate Defenders won the game by 83-72.

UNTV Cup, a brainchild of Bro. Daniel Razon, is a basketball tournament for a good cause. The game’s grand prize winner will get to donate their 1 million-peso grand prize to a charity of their choosing.

Team Judiciary was hailed as the previous season’s winner, and granted their 1 milion PHP earnings to institutions that care for the victims of calamities in Central Luzon and war in southern Philippines.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Hinirangs grabbed the second spot and gave their 500,000 prize money to the Masonic Charity for Crippled Children.
