INQUIRER: What is “The Old Path”? Because the Bible is only one, right? But what is the difference between The Old Path and Christianity?
BRO. ELI F. SORIANO (EFS): You are asking me what is The Old Path and what’s the difference between Christianity and The Old Path. You see, The Old Path is just the title of our program on radio and on television. It is not the name of our organization or religious group. "Ang Dating Daan" is the title of my radio program that is Tagalog, which means The Old Path. “The Old Path” in English and “Ang Dating Daan” in Tagalog. And let us read why we named our program on television and on radio as The Old Path. There is a prophecy in the Bible which states in Jeremiah 6:16, let us read that -
SIS LUZ CRUZ (LC): "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls..."
EFS: You see? The word "old path" is in the Bible. It is the Ang Dating Daan, The Old Path where the good way is. And according to the Lord - "…and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls..." So, it is a part of the prophecy of the Prophet Jeremiah that there is an old path, there is an old way. Would you kindly read that in Japanese - - And I hope you have read the word “the old path,” which is the equivalent of Ang Dating Daan in Tagalog. And that is the good way where the Lord wants us to walk. Enter therein. The Lord said - "…walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls..." That is a prophecy of the book of Jeremiah, which we have appreciated. Why? Because, now in our dispensation, in these times, there are those who are teaching doctrines which are new. They did not come from God. They are invented doctrines of different religious organizations. We are emphasizing this verse to convince people to go back to the old path, to go back to the old way where there is a rest for our souls. That is the word “Ang Dating Daan.” It implies the old path - the former ways of the Lord, the former teachings of the Lord. Those are the former things of the Lord because there are new, there are now invented doctrines, that is why we are emphasizing on the former. Now, you are asking what is the difference of our faith and our belief to the Christian religion. Actually, if I may frankly say, we believe that our religion is the true Christianity taught by the Bible. Why do we say that? You see, there are now that claim to be Christians but are not following the entire doctrines of Christ or the entire doctrines of Christianity. May I give you an example? Let us read I Timothy 2:9 -
LC: "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works."
EFS: You see that? One of the doctrines of Christianity is for women, who are Christians, to adorn themselves in modest apparel. You see? But now there are women who do not adorn themselves in modest apparel. They are practically showing everything to anybody. You can look at women now who wear dresses with half of their breasts exposed! Can you say that that is modest apparel? Exposing your breasts, exposing the whole of your thighs among people? Wearing miniskirts, and sometimes topless and sleeveless clothes is unchristian. It is unchristian. If you really are a Christian, you will be following the doctrines of Christianity. And one of the doctrines of Christianity is for women to adorn themselves in modest apparel. So, that is the true Christianity in the Bible. That is what we follow. Everything that our Lord Jesus has taught, we follow. But while claiming to be Christians, other religious groups do not follow, then we can conclude that they are false Christians. With us, our faith, our belief, what we believe in life, what we follow is the entire teaching of Christianity of our Lord Jesus Christ. So, we consider ourselves as Christians. We have no difference from the first century Christians. But we are different from those who are professing to be Christians but are not following the entire doctrines of Christ. For you to be a Christian, you have to follow the entire doctrine of Christ. Matthew 28:20 -
LC: "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
EFS: You see? That is the will of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is His commandment to the apostles to teach people to observe ALL – "all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." So, Christianity is a strict observance of all the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. You have to observe all; not missing even a tittle or a jot. Let us read, in the book of Matthew 5:18 -
LC: "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."
EFS: So, it is the will of the Lord Jesus Christ to fulfill all His laws. ALL His laws. The whole law, the entire law. Not one tittle or jot more or less. You do not have to take away a teaching of Christ and still consider yourself as a true Christian. For you to be considered as a true Christian, you have to take, and to do, and to execute, and to fulfill the entire law of Christianity, no more, no less. Galatians 6:2, it says –
LC: "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ."
EFS: See? Christianity is fulfilling the law of Christ. "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ." That is true Christianity. But if you profess to be a Christian, leaving behind the laws of Christ, what does our Lord Jesus Christ say about you? Let us read, in the book of John 12:48 -
LC: "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day."
EFS: You see? That is tantamount to rejecting Christ if you reject His words. He said - "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words," So, if you do not receive the teachings, if you do not accept the teachings of Christ while you say that you are accepting Christ, you are rejecting Christ, and you are not a Christian. I am sorry to say this, but there those now professing to be Christians but do not accept the teachings of Christ in its entirety or in its whole concept. Let us receive the laws of Christ for us to be Christians. Let us fulfill "...all things whatsoever I have commanded you:" So, if you are asking, what is our difference of the Ang Dating Daan or The Old Path to Christianity, no difference at all. We embrace the entire teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ. We do not take away anything or add anything unto it. We observe it in its entirety. That is my answer to your question. Pleased to meet you. Thank you.
INQUIRER: It's so nice to talk to you.
