INQUIRER: What is true forgiving?
BRO. ELI F. SORIANO (EFS): There are two kinds of forgiving. Forgiving the sin of a brother against a brother or forgiving a fellowman. Our discussion is about the Bible. In the Bible, there are two premises of forgiveness - forgiveness that is acknowledged by God and forgiveness that is person to person. Concerning personal forgiveness, forgiving someone is forgetting the sins done by your fellowman. That is how God forgives. When He forgives you, He forgets your sins. Listen to Hebrews 8:12 -
BRO. DANIEL S. RAZON (DSR): "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more."
EFS: That's how God forgives. "..and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." That is how to forgive - He will not remember our sins.
So, if for example we forgive, it should also be like that. If we forgave, let us not bring it up again. Let us not make accountable the person we have forgiven. And to forgive your fellowman is a very important commandment of God because if you don't forgive, you will not be forgiven. Listen to Matthew 6:14 -
DSR: "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
EFS: When you forgive, you will be forgiven. That's how God is.
That's why when He commanded the apostles to pray - "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors." So, for you to be forgiven, you also have to forgive. Forgive and you will be forgiven. That is God's way. It is really important to forgive. And if you forgive, you will not bring to remembrance what you have forgiven. You will not upbraid, you will not remind the person. That's how it is, brother.
