INQUIRER: Is it evil to drink wine? If it is, why did Jesus Christ perform a miracle by making water into wine?
BRO. ELI F. SORIANO: You have a good question. There are two kinds of wine in the Bible: strong and light, that which is not yet fermented, not yet alcoholic. The non-alcoholic, like what Christ made, is only water but He made it wine; that is not evil. For example, the [tuba] freshly taken from palm tree is not intoxicating. If it is newly extracted, it is not intoxicating. The newly extracted juice of grapes is not intoxicating. That is not evil. But if it is intoxicating and you are of God, you will not drink it. Christ could not be the cause of drunkenness. Christ could not be like that... Imagine, six water pots; those were plenty! A drunken revelry would have happened if the wine were intoxicating. In the Bible, there are two kinds of wine: intoxicating and non-intoxicating. Like now, we could buy in wine stores the so-called red wine with only 4% alcohol content. That is not intoxicating. That could be drunk, only with 4% alcohol content. If it is 12% or 15%, that is already intoxicating! There are two kinds of wine - intoxicating and the other is not.
